Fight for the beaver: district of Oberallgäu plans controversial order!

In the Oberallgäu it is bubbling behind the scenes! The district brings a controversial general decision (AV) to shoot beavers again, which was previously stopped by the Augsburg Administrative Court. As Merkur originally reported on September 11th in a protected area authorized. The BUND Naturschutz (BN) filed an urgent application that convinced the court on November 8th. But the district office stubbornly tries to avoid legal resistance. Despite the serious worries about the beaver population, which could be erased to more than 3720 hectares, a new AV should be issued.

In addition, the district administrator Indra Baier-Müller had emphasized the dangers of beaver activities, as they dig near critical infrastructures such as federal road B19 and railway dams. As Br24 , the worrying incidents already extended so far that damage to agricultural machines and sensitive drinking water supply by nag animals were determined. According to the court, however, the original general order was illegal, since the BN was not properly included. A present scandal that makes the population list!

The legal situation remains tense

With the latest judicial decision, there is no shooting from the beavers, but the district office is pushing for quick solutions for the increased beaver population. Despite the legal barriers that affect the beaver, no beaver in the district has been removed in the past few weeks. This is what district administrator Baier-Müller claims because there are not enough trained beaver officers. Training for hunters is already planning to counteract the impending risk of infrastructure. The dispute over the beaver continues, while those responsible have to look for solutions that meet both the natural biodiversity and the protection of infrastructural systems.
