Important changes in local transport: fewer trains and digital pay!

Aschaffenburg, Deutschland - Important changes in public transport in Lower Franconia are imminent. From December 15th, the day of the timetable change in Bavaria, numerous innovations come into force that affect the passengers of the West Franconia. As Br24 , various trains of the West Franconia are now being replaced by buses, especially between Kleinwallstadt and Aschaffenburg. An example: The regional express, which previously drove from Miltenberg to Aschaffenburg at 7.41 a.m., has been deleted. Now travelers have to switch to the RB88 regional railway, which, however, only runs every hour, whereby the travel times are extended.

In addition, Deutsche Bahn carries out these measures in the Aschaffenburg Nachrichtenburg Department. In a similar location is also the Hessian State Railway, which also has to suspend around ten percent of its trips around Aschaffenburg. These restrictions apply for the time being until the middle of next year, whereby the passenger association per railway fears that the situation could last longer.

New transport association in Mainfranken

An exciting innovation is also pending in Schweinfurt: From January 15, 2025, eleven trains of the Erfurt railway will no longer stop in the districts of Schweinfurt-Mitte and Schweinfurt-Stadt, but only at the main train station. In addition, only digital payment will be possible on January 1, 2025 on the buses of the municipal utility company - a nationwide unique system. However, there are no price changes for owners of season tickets, such as stwab.de

At the beginning of 2025, the local transport association Mainfranken will be launched, which is considered the third largest transport association in Bavaria. This new association now includes an extended region that also includes the city and the district of Schweinfurt as well as the districts of Bad Kissingen, Haßberge and Rhön-Grabfeld. The uniform tariffs promise simplifications for travelers and cheaper prices, as the new ticket structure shows - for example, only a ticket for 10.80 euros is now required for the trip from Estenfeld to Schweinfurt, instead of three tickets for a total of 20.50 euros.
