Aschaffenburg University of Technology: Innovation boost for students!

The Aschaffenburg University of Technology, which has had the title of Technical University (TH) since 2019, is recording a positive development in its range of courses and student numbers. In 2019, the expansion of the range of courses towards computer science began with the Medical Engineering and Data Science courses, followed in 2020 by Software Design. The first graduates of the Software Design course are expected in 2024. In 2023, an English-taught bachelor's degree program, Software Design International, was introduced to attract international students.

An important project is the opening of the Sustainable Energy Technology Transfer Center in Alzenau, which plays a central role in the regional economy. In addition, the ZeWiS technology transfer center in Obernburg received increased basic funding from 440,000 euros to 770,500 euros annually in 2024 and was recognized as the most successful transfer center in Bavaria. The Faculty of Health Sciences was founded in 2021 with the midwifery course, which was very popular: over 200 applications were submitted for 30 places.

Financial support and new study opportunities

The TH Aschaffenburg also receives significant financial support. From the state budget's science budget, the university receives 300,000 euros for a skills lab in the Physician Assistant course, which was largely supported by the state parliament member Prof. Dr. Winfried Bausback and Judith Gerlach was initiated. In addition, the Bavarian state government is providing around 250,000 euros for the university's profile development. President Prof. Dr. Eva-Maria Beck-Meuth expressed her gratitude for these funds, which form an essential basis for the implementation of attractive projects at the university.

Applications can be submitted from May 2nd for the Physician Assistant course, which attracts a high level of interest - 300 applications for 60 places alone. Further information is available on the university's website and at the student information day on April 20th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Overall, the diversification of the range of courses on offer is leading to increasing student numbers, currently 3,750, compared to 3,200 in 2019. TH Aschaffenburg has produced over 10,200 graduates since it was founded 30 years ago, more than half of which remain in the region. The founding of the ZENTRIA.Hub and the Venture Lab to promote business start-ups also shows the university's commitment to acting as a motor of the regional economy.

Through a combination of face-to-face teaching and digital elements, TH Aschaffenburg is pursuing a future-oriented educational strategy that also includes the integration of international partner universities. Since 2019, 30 new professorships have been established, 30% of which are held by women, in order to improve the conditions for students and teachers.
