Lights against light pollution: Students win the environmental price!

A radiant trio caused a sensation at the federal environmental competition! Mirela Hincu, Rebecca Linke and Hajra Scharifi dealt intensively with light pollution and won first place. Their impressive measurements on the brightness of the sky and the light color of street lamps show how artificial light influences the life of plants and animals. This award now obliges you to continue to take the topic to the public. The committed teachers Katrin Bauer and Heike Elschner have already taken the first steps to start a light rate, and the city administration shows great interest!

The city of Aschaffenburg has been in view of the problem of light pollution for a long time. Street lamps were dimmed at night, and in natural -sensitive areas it is paid to a lower light temperature. But that's not enough! The planned light rate is intended to find solutions and clarify where more can be undertaken against light pollution. "We want to define exactly where you can do more against light pollution," explains Bauer. The students will present their results again and point out that it is not just about seeing the stars in the sky again, but also about the protection of the environment and the wildlife.

first meeting and participation options

The first meeting for the founding of the light rate will take place on Wednesday, November 20, at 4:30 p.m. in the adult education center. In addition to the city administration, local politicians and environmental associations are also invited. "We are non -partisan," emphasizes Bauer and opens the doors to everyone interested. There are currently no fixed requirements for the work of the body, and the structure remains flexible. "We are not fixed at all," says Bauer, and invites everyone to actively participate.

Time is ripe to fight together against light pollution! Be there and shape the future of the city of Aschaffenburg!
