Prostitution in Balingen: Ban threatens after growth in the residents!
Prostitution in Balingen: Ban threatens after growth in the residents!
In Balingen, prostitution is now officially allowed! A daring step for the city, which until recently fought with a clear ban. Dennis Schmidt, the spokesman for the city, confirmed that there have already been cases of administrative offenses that indicate secret sex work. But the ban has so far been a legal obstacle. The city has fewer than 35,000 inhabitants, which means that prostitution was not legal until recently and was considered a crime if it was regularly exercised.
The Ordinance in Baden-Württemberg stipulates that prostitution and brothels are prohibited in cities with fewer than 35,000 inhabitants. But with the latest population of over 35,000, Balingen now has the chance to overturn this regulation. In cities with 35,000 to 50,000 inhabitants, prostitution is generally allowed, but can be restricted by the responsible regional council. Balingen has already submitted an application for a legal ordinance on the ban on prostitution, which is currently being examined at the Tübingen regional council.
Albstadt: A model for Balingen?
In contrast, the neighboring city of Albstadt has had a complete ban on prostitution for 40 years. The deputy press spokesman Holger Much sees no need for action because the population will not increase over 50,000. The ban that came into force in 1984 was issued to "protect young people and the public decency". Anyone who violates this ban has to expect high fines or even prison.
Despite the ban, there is also illegal prostitution in Albstadt, which takes place in hotels or rented rooms. In contrast, Rottenburg am Neckar has chosen a different strategy and allows sex work in certain commercial areas, while most of the city is considered a restricted area. Balingen, on the other hand, seems to choose the path of Albstadt and strives for a comprehensive ban, while the legal framework is still being discussed.
