Men's excursion of the VDK: Discover beer, history and Albert Schweitzer!

An exciting day for the men of the VdK district association Zollernalb! After the great success of the women's excursions, the men called for their own excursion. The goal was the traditional Fürstenberg brewery in Donaueschingen and the Albert-Schweitzer-Haus in Königsfeld. Almost a whole bus full of VDK men set off, organized by Roland Sauter, the chairman of the district association. He greeted the participants with a creative rhyme and presented the exciting daily program. Monika Bauerochse, the only lady in the group, took on the role of the "on-board stewardess" and ensured a smooth process.

arrived in the brewery, the participants were divided into two groups and led by the charming leaders Isabella and Erwin through the centuries-old brewery. The VDK men learned that the brewery goes back to 1283 and still exist in Germany around 1,500 breweries that brew over 5,000 different types of beer-all according to the strict German purity requirement from 1516! After the tour, a hearty snack was served in the cozy "Bräustüble", which spoiled the palate of men with a selection of sausage and cheese types, pretzels and farmer's bread.

a visit to Albert Schweitzer

The trip continued to lead to the idyllic community of Königsfeld, where the Albert-Schweitzer-Haus was on the program. Here the famous doctor and philosopher Albert Schweitzer lived with his family and led his jungle hospital in Lambaree, Africa. After a captivating lecture on his life and work, the VDK men explored the premises of the house. A short walk through the picturesque environment was also planned, but the cloudy weather forced the group to gather in the traditional coffee Sapel. A piece of history came to life here, because Schweitzer once ordered a birthday cake for his wife by telegram-the famous "thousand leaf cake" from his Alsatian homeland.

On the way back, Rudi Ritter, the local association chairman of Dotternhausen, thanked Roland Sauter for the excellent organization and at Monika Bauerochse for her support. The bus driver Uwe Geitlinger also received praise for his punctuality and discipline. An unforgettable day for the VDK men who will go into the history books!
