Scandal for hundreds of damaged cars: Who is really behind it?

In a explosive turn in the case of massive sabotage of hundreds of cars in Germany, it turns out that Russian clients could be behind it. As Der Spiegel reported, over 270 vehicles in various federal states, including Berlin, Brandenburg, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, were made unusable with assembly foam. The saboteurs left stickers with the provocative slogan "be greener!" and a picture of Economics Minister Robert Habeck. At the beginning it was assumed that radical climate activists could be responsible. But now it seems that the incidents are part of a targeted campaign to influence the Bundestag election, which is to take place on February 23.

sabotage files and police controls

The investigation started when a police patrol stopped a suspicious van in Schönefeld near Berlin in December. There were three young men in the vehicle, but they were initially not considered. When the destruction became known the next morning, the police came on the trail of an organized campaign. According to the information, the alleged perpetrators were recruited via the "Viber" trade fair service in order to carry out targeted sabotage files. They allegedly received several thousand euros for their actions, with a reward of 100 euros being promised for each amamaged vehicle.

The security authorities underline the seriousness of possible Russian influence on the Bundestag election campaign. This suspicion was hardened after several apartment searches in Baden-Württemberg, in which building sockets and electronic devices were ensured. The attempts to make mood against the Greens and their candidates for the chancellor are alarming and show a worrying left on the structures of Russian influence, which has been feared by the German authorities for a long time, as well as Tagesschau confirmed.
