Customs controls logistics center: numerous undeclared workers disguised!
nationwide controls to comply with the minimum wage caused a sensation on October 17th in a logistics center near Sigmaringen. Over 100 investigators from the main customs office Ulm carried out a comprehensive review in which 426 people were interviewed to uncover possible violations of the work guidelines.
The focus of the control was also aimed at security companies that work in refugee accommodation. In this context, 11 employees of these companies were examined. In addition, in cooperation with the Austrian financial police, there were investigators on site that worked in parallel in Austria and thereby secured 50,000 euros in premium arrears from local companies.
Investigations due to suspicion of undeclared work
On the German side, the investigation leads to suspected undeclared work that is directed against a logistics sub-entrepreneur and a security company. As part of these measures, a Bosnian was arrested against whom there was an arrest warrant in Croatia. Furthermore, it turned out that a person from Brazil illegally lingered in Germany. In several other cases, subcontractors are suspected and are currently being examined more intensively, while the evaluations of the collected data are going on.
The coordination of these cross -border measures takes place by the European Labor Authority (ELA). This procedure ensures that the fight against undeclared work and illegal employment is approached across bodies. Cooperation with the Austrian authorities is pursuing a comprehensive approach that is intended to promote crime fighting and the protection of labor rights.
