Unemployment in the Black Forest Baar: decline remains behind expectations

Unemployment in the Black Forest Baar: decline remains behind expectations

In October 2024, the employment agency reports a slight decline in unemployment in the Schwarzwald-Baar-Heuberg region. A total of 12,254 people are unemployed, which corresponds to 142 less than in the previous month. The unemployment rate remains stable at 4.3 percent, both in the agency district and all over Baden-Württemberg. But the joy of this decline is subdued - the autumn revitalization is weaker than usual, with only 1.1 percent decline, while in the previous years the decline in October was five percent.

The economic figures are contradictory: While the agency speaks of a continued weak economy, the Federal Statistical Office sums up minimal growth in the third quarter. Sylvia Scholz, the chairman of the management of the agency, warns of an increase in layoffs in all industries, except for health and social work as well as public administration. "We observe that in all industries the number of layoffs has increased compared to the previous year," she explains.

increasing short -time work and new opportunities

The increase in short -time work is particularly alarming. In October, 104 companies for 1,951 employees registered short -time work - a significant increase compared to the 74 companies in the previous month. This development shows that companies take the economic challenges seriously. Nevertheless, there are also bright spots: Despite the declining economic development, 1,016 unemployed people found new employment in the reporting month. The demand for skilled workers remains unbroken, and the agency encourages everyone who strives for a professional qualification.

  • In the Black Forest Baar district, 5,645 people are unemployed, 71 less than in September, with an unemployment rate of 4.6 percent.
  • in the district of Rottweil are 2,797 people unemployed, 37 less than in the previous month, with a quota of 3.4 percent.
  • In the Tuttlingen district, 3,812 unemployed were counted, 34 less than in September, with a rate of 4.5 percent.
