Fellbach association brings hope to Cameroon: 50 fountains for the future!
In an impressive act of solidarity, the Fellbach association has made a remarkable progress in the Central African region in the past three years. Under the direction of Jochen Höfliger and his partner Alima Berger-Noya, 48 fountains have already been built for around 45,000 people, and the ambitious project of an education and health center is about to be completed. The association, which started with only eight members, sent over 70 cubic meters of medical relief supplies to Cameroon, including wheelchairs, glasses and school materials.
water is life
"Clean drinking water is in short supply," says Höfliger, and that in a region that should actually be water -rich. The wells, which were dug up to 20 meters deep, now offer access to fresh water and have reduced the typhoid infections by impressive 70 percent. The local population, which previously had to cover long distances to get water, is now experiencing a drastic improvement in their quality of life. Alima Berger-Noya emphasizes that more than 50 fountains should be completed this year, which will further improve living conditions.
But the commitment of the association does not end with water supply. A three-story educational and sick center is to be built on an already paid property, which is to be inaugurated in spring 2025. The center will not only offer medical care, but also educational offers for children and women, including computer lessons and courses for sexual education. "The need is just too big," explains Höfliger, who firmly believes that this center will give people in Foumban the chance of a self -determined life. The construction costs of around 100,000 euros are covered by donations from the region, and the association encourages support from donations of money and material as well as sponsorships.
