The focus: FV Ravensburg II and SV Oberzell fight for points!
The relegation round in the national football league begins at the weekend and both FV Ravensburg II and SV Oberzell are facing a decisive phase of their season. For both teams, it is important to secure the relegation, which means that they have to assert themselves in the ranking between places one and five. Even if many experts see the Ravensburger U23 as favorites, the Oberzeller are optimistic.
The coach of FV Ravensburg, Armin Friedrich, expressed his skepticism about the structure of the current season. "It's all unhappy, but we have to accept it," he said. He emphasizes the need to come "from children's football to adult football", which means that players have to act more mature and more focused. Coach Daniel Hörtkorn von Oberzell agrees that the circumstances, be it the weather or the game mode, are a challenge. "You have to find your way around the circumstances," he said.
The difficult mode of the relegation round
The mode is indeed challenging: twelve teams compete against each other in a round system, which means that each team has to play a total of 22 games. At least six of these teams will descend in the end. If there are further descents from the association league, the number could even increase to seven. "We have to think from game to game and build on the performance of one or the other home game," added Hörtkorn. The declared goal is clear: secure the relegation. "We'll throw everything in for that," he emphasized.
Before it really starts, the Oberzeller have the first game on Sunday against Türkgücü Ulm. "Türkgücü has had a difficult phase behind you with the change of coach," says Hörtkorn, but is also unsure about the opponent: "The first game against a new opponent that is not known is always difficult." The Ravensburger, on the other hand, know what to expect. Her first opponent is Turkspor Neu-Ulm, against whom you have already lost in the association cup. Friedrich, the trainer of the Ravensburger, relies on a solid defensive performance and concentrated game to avoid individual mistakes.
"Some of the carefree from the A-youth have to finally take off," said Friedrich. "It's about concentration, because now every point counts. The closing time of the first ten games in the quality is over." A good start to the relegation round would be decisive for the further. "We have to come in well. We can win the first games and we want to win them too," said Friedrich.
The second matchday will already be a special event: On October 26, FV Ravensburg II and SV Oberzell will meet in a derby. In the quality, the Ravensburger won 6-1 in the last direct duel. But for the moment, both trainers look fully focused on their respective first games. "We will bring a powerful troops to the square," promises Hörrich, while Friedrich feels the relief because Marko Föger returns and Luis Müller is supposed to take on a stabilizing role in the defense.
The coming weeks will be decisive for both teams, because each point is on the way to relegation. The challenges are great, the pressure as well, and the goal is to stay in the league, which is of the utmost importance for both players and coaches.
