Ortenaukreis, Deutschland - Extreme weather in sight! The Ortenaukreis is repositioned to meet the challenges of climate change and the increasingly frequent extreme weather events! In 2023, Together with Crisis Stab expert Prof. Dr. Dominic Gißler developed a forward -looking concept that is to be implemented in three government levels by the end of 2025. The aim is to optimize the organization, the staff and the equipment of the technical management team in order to be able to react even more effectively to emergencies. Janosch Grieger, provisional director of the Office for Fire and Disaster Protection, explains: "The management staff is a special management organization of the district office for extraordinary events and supports the district fire chief and the lower disaster control authority." In the event of a crisis, this staff will lead the decisive operational measures.

Recruitment for the management staff in December 2023 was a great success! Numerous volunteers from fire departments and aid organizations such as the German Red Cross showed interest. 23 then selected people received intensive training in March and April 2024, led by Dominic Gißler. After learning, the participants were appointed as volunteer members of the management team. Team formation and the development of more personal strengths were special priorities.
With these well -trained members, the management staff will take over the coordination of the emergency services, as well as the support of the local management structures of the fire brigade and emergency services, and actively act according to the state disaster protection law. The first training took place on July 12th and 13th, 2024 and included a fictional scenario: a devastating earthquake. The second staff training on October 18 and 19, 2024 offered the members the perfect opportunity to demonstrate their newly learned skills. A communication exercise was launched, which the members should prepare even better for real crisis situations. In addition, the next year of training program is currently being promoted!
