St. Andreaskirche in Offenburg: dismantling instead of expensive conversions!

Offenburg, Deutschland - Offenburg - The plans for the redesign of the St. Andreaskirche, which the Catholic parish of Offenburg St. Ursula had presented for autumn 2024, failed! Instead of a cost -intensive renovation, the church is now relocated to the state of 2019 with minimal effort. This was announced in a letter from the parish to the city of Offenburg on October 17th. The decision for this dismantling comes, while church development in 2030 and the restructuring of the Roman Catholic parish of Middle Ortenau are underway on January 1, 2026.

The parish has decided to remove the elements originally intended as a provisional. From the third calendar week in the new year, the wind trap is broken down, the walls are retouched by a church painter, and the wooden floor is removed to vacate the stone floor again. The stored wooden benches are also to be attached again in the front area of the church in order to emphasize the sacred character of the room. This return to the roots should give visitors a stronger feeling of spirituality.

flexible meeting room

Although use as a city pastoral remains possible, it will take place to a reduced extent. In the back of the church, towards the citizens' office, a flexible meeting room without solid benches is created in order to meet the needs of the community. The city administration has expressly supported the procedure of the Catholic parish and is optimistic about the planned measures.
