Viernheim, Deutschland - The construction work for the new cycle path between Viernheim and the Muckensturm district of Heddesheim are in full swing. Since November 2024, Hessen Mobil has been working on the widening and construction of the two -kilometer long, roadworthy bike path. This measure pursues the goal of offering cyclists a safe and direct connection without having to move in the flowing traffic of the state road L 3111 and the K 4134 district road. The construction phase from "In the Ziegelhütte" is currently running to the state border, but the construction site will go into a winter break due to weather influences from Friday, December 20th to Friday, January 10, 2025, as Hessen says. During this time, the one -way regulation is canceled so that traffic can flow into both directions, which creates a temporary relief for the residents.

The total costs for this joint project amount to around 1.16 million euros, with the state of Hesse paying around 706,000 euros and the Baden-Württemberg district of 454,000 euros. The complete completion of the cycle path is planned by summer 2025. The construction takes place in several sections: The first section concerns the widening of the existing bike path from the A 659, followed by further sections that will expand the new bike path to the roundabout in Baden-Württemberg.

In addition, the Stadtwerke Viernheim on the roundabout arms have planned the laying of emptying systems, which enlivens the construction site. The construction of the cycle path is a significant improvement for cycling in the region, since so far there has been no continuous cycle path connection, as well as the Mannheimer Morgen reported.
