New space of silence in the Karlsruhe Clinic: peace for all denominations!
A very special retreat was inaugurated in the Karlsruhe municipal clinic: the "space of silence". This unique place offers patients, relatives and clinic employees the opportunity to find peace and reflection. Mayor Bettina Lisbach, who was present at the opening, was convinced that this room will be a valuable oasis in the middle of the hectic everyday life.
The "space of silence" is in the new building, house M, and is easy to find by a subtle lettering. It acts as a transition between the busy clinic company and the desired calm. With two large windows that filter the gentle light through wooden slats, and a work of art by the artist Gabriele Wilpers, who presents golden leaves in a calming light game, the room creates a soothing atmosphere. "The space of silence should be a small consolation garden," Wilpers describes the intention behind its design.
a place for all denominations
The room was developed in close cooperation with the clinic's pastoral team and is open to people of all faiths. "We wanted to create a place that is not bound to a certain religious tradition," explains Markus Heming, the commercial manager. The room is intended to help expand the pastoral offer of the clinic and to address new groups of visitors. Christine Dehmel from the pastoral care of the clinic emphasizes that the room was deliberately designed without religious symbols in order to offer everyone a feeling of belonging.
The existence of the "Room of Silence" is thanks to the estate of Elfriede and Max Elzemann, which is highlighted by a trajectory next to the front door. It is the 65th table of this kind and a sign of how important such retreats are in a hospital.
