The alarm bells ring out aloud at IG Metall in Heidenheim. Managing Director Tobias Bucher reports of alarming developments: "More than a thousand spots are in danger!" The situation at Voith is particularly worrying, where the special brakes area is for sale. For the 270 employees affected, this means great uncertainty. But at TDK, too, the fate of the 540 employees is on the brink, since 300 places are to be canceled. Despite alternative proposals from the works council and IG Metall, an agreement was rejected by the company management. The concerns are omnipresent, because the competition does not sleep and the wave of termination continues to tear through the region.

The IHK Ostwürttemberg sounds the alarm: Almost every third company plans to reduce jobs in the next twelve months. The uncertainty is noticeable and the employees are scared. "The mood has deteriorated significantly," said IHK managing director Thilo Rentschler. In order to counteract this, the “offensive future East Württemberg” was launched. This initiative is intended to support companies in the region and at the same time create new perspectives in order not to become a "difficult area".

While 500 people came together for a protest at the end of October to demonstrate against the devastating workplace situation, the question remains: How long can this economic decline be stopped?
