Underground garage brand in Heidelberg: Vehicle completely burned out!

In a dramatic incident in Heidelberg, a vehicle fire was reported in an underground car park at around 2:25 p.m. on October 26, 2024. The alarm was triggered when a vehicle had a technical problem when bridging. This immediately led to massive smoke development that was conjured up on site. The flames spread especially in the engine compartment of a vehicle, which subsequently burned out completely. Fortunately, a second vehicle was only slightly damaged, so the damage was relatively low.

The fire brigade in use

The courageous fire brigade had to ventilate the underground car park after combating the fire in order to derive the dangerous amounts of smoke. During the incident, a person was supplied outpatiently due to suspicion of flue gas poisoning, fortunately without major health consequences. The total damage caused by the fire amounts to around 5,000 euros for the vehicles - however, the underground car park itself remained intact.

The police from Heidelberg-Süd has meanwhile started the investigation into the exact cause of the fire. This event raises questions that will probably have to be answered soon to avoid such incidents in the future!
