VfB Friedrichshafen disappointed: bitter 0-3 defeat in Giesen!

VfB Friedrichshafen suffered a clear 3-0 defeat against Helios Grizzlys Giesen on the second matchday of the Volleyball Bundesliga. The return to Lake Constance was anything but pleasant for coach Adam Swaczyna's team.

In Hildesheim, the Häfler showed an uninspired performance in the face of a heavily changed opposing team. Before the encounter, the team from Giesen made some major changes, but the hosts didn't seem to notice them negatively. Instead, it was VfB who appeared nervous and error-prone and gave away two easy points right at the start through their own mistakes.

Lack of stability in the game

The unrest in the attack significantly affected VfB's entire game. The assumption, a key ingredient for successful attacks, was a problem from the start. Radoslav Parapunov had left the team before the game and the replacement did not seem to stabilize the team. The Grizzlys quickly found their rhythm and soon led 8-4. VfB couldn't recover: too often simple balls were not successfully received or put into play in a targeted manner.

As the first set progressed, the Giesen-Grizzlys extended their lead, while VfB struggled to show their usual style of play. The first set ended with a confident 17:25 and the team knew that a comeback was necessary.

Hope blossomed in the second set when Friedrichshafen was able to take the lead for a while, driven by a good series of serves from Michal Superlak. However, this stability only lasted for a short time. A block error and another service error quickly led to the Grizzlys regaining the upper hand. The hosts also secured the second set with a clear 19:25.

The third sentence reflected the problems of the previous sentences. Although the Häflers tried to fight back, the Grizzlies' dominance was obvious. The Giesen players acted confidently and took advantage of their chances, while VfB's own mistakes continued to characterize the game. The final set loss of 18:25 sealed the disappointing defeat.

Analysis of the defeat and outlook

A visibly disappointed libero Lenny Graven spoke about the failing concept after the game: "We didn't implement the things we trained. The simple balls were particularly missing." Coach Adam Swaczyna was objective in his analysis: "We didn't score any points and the serve didn't work. We have to find out why that is and prepare better." This assessment highlights the challenges that the team will have to overcome in the coming period.

VfB has the opportunity to recover from this defeat as early as next weekend. On October 5th (8 p.m.) they will play against WWK Volleys Herrsching in the SPACETECH ARENA. The team is under pressure to improve their performance and impress in front of their own audience. Tickets for the game are still available so home fans can support their team.

The upcoming game will be crucial to show whether the players can learn the lessons from the bitter defeat in Hildesheim. A stronger performance against the motivated Herrschinger is necessary in order to remain competitive in the league.
