Axel Dopfer: New German hourly record set up in cycling!
Friedrichshafen, Deutschland - Axel Dopfer wrote history on September 18 in the Velodrom of Grenchen, Switzerland. The 23-year-old cyclist of RSV Seerose Friedrichshafen set up a new German hourly record by letting impressive 51.755 kilometers. This new record exceeded Jens Voigt's old record, which has been 51.115 kilometers for ten years. Voigt had also set up his record in Grenchen and he even kept the world record for some time until Matthias Brändle exceeded it. The news about Dopfer record was also spread several days later by Rad-net , which underlines the importance of this success.
intensive preparations led to success
Dopfer, who studied England in Loughborough, had a challenging year. Originally, he wanted to set up the record in April, but various obstacles, including an examination phase and training breaks, led to multiple shifts. Before his record attempt, he had trained intensively and made special preparations to increase his performance. In August, Dopfer took seventh place at the German Championships in a tracking, which gave him additional motivation. When the big event moved closer, he was well prepared: "I had little time left to relax because all photos wanted to take and the champagne was given," said Dopfer after the record.
The moment of the record was an enormous challenge for Dopfer. "As expected, it was incredibly difficult at the end of the hour and the last ten minutes were extreme," recalled the new record holder. The entire team, including his family and friends, was on site to celebrate this memorable moment. After the record, Dopfer is already thinking of new goals: In addition to his academic career, he strives to further improve his own record in the tracking and thus opposes the urge to pose this success story.
Another remarkable aspect is that Dopfer used the promotion of various departments of his university to ensure optimal preparation. This shows how important interdisciplinary cooperation is in sports to achieve extraordinary achievements. These successes not only confirm its skills as a athlete, but also the importance of science and technology in competitive sports.
