The new era of rail transport in Ortenau began on December 15, 2024: The train traffic of the Südwestdeutsche Landesverkehr-GmbH (SWEG) is now being led under the name "Regio S-Bahn Ortenau". This was done as part of a large timetable change, which not only resulted in the renaming of existing lines, but also the expansion of the journey offer. This was recognized at the train station in Ottenhöfen during a festive event, in which, among others, Berthold Frieß, Ministerial Director in the State Transport Ministry of Baden-Württemberg, expressed his consent to the new concept. The introduction of the Regio S-Bahn is intended to offer a high-quality connection between the city and the country for the region. As the Stadtanzeiger Ortenau , new line names were also introduced, for example RS 1 for Offenburg - Freudenstadt and RS 2 for Offenburg - Bad Griesbach.

The innovative switch to the S-Bahn regio includes the use of environmentally friendly battery-electric moves of the type Mireo Plus B from Siemens Mobility. These trains, which are operated according to Wikipedia whispering and emission-free, can drive on routes without electrical top line and offer a range of up to 120 kilometers in battery operation-an important step towards susceptible mobility. The trains also offer space for 120 passengers and are equipped with modern amenities, including WLAN and air conditioning systems.

The introduction of the Regio S-Bahn Ortenau is significantly improved, with additional connections on the Renchtal and Kinzigtalbahn being created. The new trains should also ensure better connections to rail passenger transport. This changes not only an improvement in mobility, but also an increase in the attractiveness of rail transport in the Ortenau.
