Future of the craft: Young talents take over at painter Hils!

Unterer Angel, Offenburg, Deutschland - A visit that leaves the impression! Mayor Marco Steffens paid an exciting visit to Hils GmbH in Offenburg. The traditional painting business, which was founded by Manfred Hils in 1963, has developed into a solid craft business with around 30 employees. Not only walls are painted here, but also extensive full-service services in the renovation and renovation are offered-and above all for regional customers!

The brothers Stefan and Manfred Hils took over the company from their father in 1993, but a health set forced Stefan 2012 to take responsibility for the office. Now that the successor is regulated, the future of the company is on stable feet. The young color and painting technician Dave Baumgarten, which comes from Berlin, started his journey at Hils in September and will gradually take over the management by 2030. A real stroke of luck for the company, which could also shine with a variety of orders in challenging times, such as during pandemic!

a strong craft and new perspectives

Although the order volume has decreased in recent years, Stefan Hils is optimistic. "During the pandemic we had so many orders that sometimes we no longer knew how to work through everything," he reports. The trend is increasingly towards orders outdoors, and 55 percent of the orders come from private households. In order to inspire young people for this exciting profession, the company relies on interns from Offenburg schools and the painting school in Lahr. "It is a great job, you can see what you did at the end of the day," explains the 23-year-old Baumgarten.

The craft in Offenburg is strong and Hils GmbH is a prime example of it! Mayor Steffens is enthusiastic about the broad establishment of the company and the commitment to the training of young talents. Two people are trained in the areas of painting, facade insulation and scaffolding in every apprenticeship - the latter has meanwhile become a separate branch of business. A visit that makes the future of craft in Offenburg look radiant!
