Two new stumbling blocks in Calw: memory of forgotten victims
A moving commemoration is imminent: In Calw, two new stumbling blocks will soon be laid - a powerful sign of returning the dignity to the victims of National Socialism! These small but significant plaques are reminiscent of the fates of people who have been degraded into numbers in concentration camps and whose names are forgotten.
Initiator of the project is the artist Gunter Demnig, who began laying the first stumbling blocks in 1992. These square bars made of brass, which are labeled with hammer and striking letters, stand for the memory of the persecuted, murdered and displaced people of the Nazi regime. So far there is no stumbling block in Calw - that should change now! In May 2023 the 100,000. Stumbling block in Nuremberg - an impressive milestone!
a strong sign against forgetting
The new stumbling blocks in Calw should appreciate the life and fate of Rosa Creuzberger and Hermann Schürle. Rosa, born in 1889, was the wife of an innkeeper and fell victim to the racist persecution in 1943. After her arrest by the Gestapo, she was deported to Auschwitz and murdered there. Hermann Schürle, a mentally ill man, was murdered in 1940 as part of the cruel "euthanasia" murders in Grafeneck. His fate represents the tragedy of 29 other people from Calw, who were also victims of these crimes.
The alliance "Calw remains colorful" initiated the laying of the stumbling blocks, a step that the city of Calw greets with open arms. Mayor Florian Kling emphasizes the importance of this project for dealing with history and promoting tolerance and humanity. The stumbling blocks are more than just a plaque - they are an urgent call to keep the memory of the victims alive and fight against forgetting!
