Palmer relies on property tax C: More living space for Tübingen from 2025!
In a courageous step to combat the housing shortage in Tübingen, Mayor Boris Palmer announced that the new property tax C will come into force from 2025. This measure will burden the owner of undeveloped, but a building zeal with additional costs and should persuade them to finally create living space. Palmer, who has been in office since 2007, has dealt with many property owners over the years and tried to motivate them to build - but success often failed to
"I have bitten my teeth on a number of property owners," Palmer admits. Despite the closure of many vacant lots in the university town, there are still around 300 undeveloped land that urgently need to be used for new living space. With the introduction of property tax C, Palmer hopes to increase the pressure on the owners and to bring them to finally become active. This tax could be the key to secure the scarce good living space in Tübingen and to make the city more livable for its citizens.
a new way to buy living space
Primary tax C is not only a financial instrument, but also a strategic move to boost the construction activities in the city. Palmer is convinced that this measure will help to improve the living space situation in Tübingen and to make the city more attractive for new residents. However, the challenge remains to convince the owners that it is time to build their properties and thus make a contribution to solving the housing shortage.
