Felson blast in Höllental: B31 and rail traffic until noon!
Felson blast in Höllental: B31 and rail traffic until noon!
A massive boulder threatens to fall onto the train tracks in the Höllental (district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald)! In order to banish the danger, a controlled explosion takes place on Wednesday morning. This means: traffic jams and delays! The B31 will be completely closed from 11:00 a.m., the explosion itself should take place at 11:20 a.m.
In order to ensure the safety of everyone, anchors and nets are used to stabilize the steep slope. However, since the rock cannot be sufficiently secured, the radical solution is chosen: blowing! Many drivers and rail guests have to prepare for uncomfortable waiting times and diversions.
B31 and Höllentalbahn affected
After the explosion, traffic should be released again as quickly as possible, Deutsche Bahn expects the normal operation until 12 noon. But be careful: a section of the Höllentalbahn between Himmelreich and Titisee remains closed until October 26th! A rail replacement traffic with buses had to be set up here ten days ago, which could also be interrupted during the blast.
This explosion is not an isolated case: the steep, rocky terrain in the Höllental constantly requires attention. In the spring of 2023, trees fell on the tracks, and long -lasting rain has also led to damage to the rails. The Höllental is unpredictable, and today's measures are necessary to prevent worse things!
