Excitement in Baden-Württemberg: 18 emergency practices should close!
excitement in Baden-Württemberg! The planned closure of 18 emergency practices could affect around 90,000 patients. These alarming numbers come from a response from the Ministry of Health at a request from the SPD parliamentary group in the state parliament. The closures are to be implemented gradually from April 2025, and the criticism of it grows every day.
The SPD has requested data on 16 of the 18 affected practices and found that a total of 86,000 people were treated last year. The situation in Backnang is particularly worrying, where 15,000 patients alone rely on emergency practice after the district hospital was closed ten years ago. Most practices also recorded increasing patient numbers compared to the previous year, which underlines the urgency of the situation. The number of patients in Nagold rose by 14 percent and 12 percent in Münsingen.
protests against the closings
against the closure plans is formed broadly. Hundreds of people, including doctors, district administrators and MPs, demonstrated in front of the building of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in Stuttgart. The KVBW justifies the closures with an acute lack of personnel among resident doctors. CEO Karsten Braun said that the regular care in the country was endangered without adjustments to the on -call service. "If we do not adapt the on -call service, then we drive the regular care in the country to the wall," said Braun.
The affected cities include Achern, Albstadt, Bad Saulgau and Eberbach. The Marburger Bund medical association warns that many patients will not be willing to take longer paths to the remaining practices and instead could see the outpatient clinic of the nearest hospitals. This could lead to an overload of the emergency rooms and further endanger medical care.
