Sustainable building: These objects set new standards in the Bodenseekreis!

In the Lake Constance district, the "Exemplary Building" award process is carried out at regular intervals, which is implemented by the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Architects in cooperation with the region. The aim of this initiative is to honor outstanding construction objects, which should be exemplary for others through their construction, creative concepts and the implementation of innovative ideas.

This year the focus was particularly on the influence of these buildings on urban development. In addition, aspects such as sustainability and accessibility for all people were focused on consideration. In the course of this procedure, over 70 projects were examined, 26 of which received an award - a sign of the high architectural quality in the Bodenseekreis.

the jury and its criteria

The jury made up of four specialist jurors and three local experts, who advised intensively on the submitted work over two days. A central question that was often discussed was: "How can the built environment of the future do justice?" Michael Schröder, who acted as an architect and urban planner and spoke the jury, referred to the term "grandchildren -compatible", which addresses the sustainability and the future -proof design of our habitats.

An important aspect in the evaluation was the perception of the buildings in their urban environment and the consideration of current mobility trends. For example, the construction project at Karl-Olga-Park in Friedrichshafen was given special attention to the use of bicycle parking spaces, which no longer have to be placed in the basement, but centrally and accessible. This shows how important adaptation itself is changing needs.

The jury also analyzed the transformation of existing buildings and settlement structures: How can old buildings be significantly redesigned? An example that was strongly in the focus of the award was the evaluation of the space requirement and the handling of the existing building stock. This meant that some ambitious projects were unfortunately not awarded because they did not meet the requirements.

The Ritz in Friedrichshafen stood out. In addition to the impressive architecture, this building impresses with its flexible use, which enables a variety of activities and events. Another interesting aspect is the jungle house in Überlingen, whose surroundings will continue to develop and whose planning has a high biodiversity.

The jury also took into account innovative approaches to the creation of new living space in connection with business. Thus three projects received an award that not only serve as a commercial building, but also include living opportunities for employees.

An outstanding example of the integration of environmental aspects is Adenauerplatz in Friedrichshafen, which shows how cities can efficiently manage rainwater in the future. In Tettnang there was also a stable that was built with wood from the immediate vicinity and offers the animals a species -appropriate home. The construction of the climatic conditions was also considered here: the roof ensures heat both in summer and in winter.

Another excellent project is the stage of the Bodanwerft in Kressbronn, in which the history of the old shipyard is kept alive through cultural events. The combination of new benefits and appreciative use of the history was decisive for the award.

The award ceremony of these outstanding projects will take place on Friday, February 3, 2025, in the Ritz in Friedrichshafen. This takes another step towards a more sustainable and inclusive urban and architectural development in Lake Constance.
