Biberach starts exchange meeting: act sustainably and submit!
In the Biberach district, a new project is launched that aims to reduce waste and strengthen the sense of community. The initiative, which is known under the name Tauschtreff, enables citizens to give up objects that they no longer need free of charge or to exchange them for other things. "This means that we can not only reduce the waste, but also contribute to sustainable use of resources," said Frank Förster, head of the waste management company (AWB). The first event will take place on Saturday, October 26th.
The waste management company plans to work closely with local clubs in order to successfully implement and support the project. The first partners are already the Musikverein Reute and SC Schönebürg. This collaboration should not only promote the use of the exchange meetings, but also offer the clubs financial support, since they contribute to waste prevention through their missions.
The details of the exchange meetings
The Musikverein Reute prepared its campstadel for the event. On the last Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., citizens can hand over functional and clean household items there. This is intended to attribute materials to the circulation that would otherwise end up in the trash. Förster, however, indicates that only suitable objects are accepted. Inappropriate things can be rejected by the club members. If there are some items left after the event, the clubs have the opportunity to sell them online or dispose of them in a recycling center.
There are still some worries about the exchange meeting. The AWB has possible risks such as wild garbage or vandalism. "We want to carry out the test for about half a year and then evaluate the experiences gained," Förster continues. In view of the fact that over 88,000 tons of valuable materials and garbage were collected in the Biberach district in 2023, one hopes that materials that can still be used can be kept longer in the circulation.
The idea of a exchange meeting is particularly relevant because many everyday things like toys or household appliances, which are often still functional, usually end up in the trash. "Due to the possibility of exchange, we not only want to avoid waste, but also raise awareness of reuse and recycling," explains Förster. Further tests are also planned for the project in other municipalities, whereby the Änhöhe of the parishioners will be decisive for the expansion. So several exchange meetings could possibly be set up in larger cities like Biberach.
In summary, it can be said that the exchange meeting in Reute is a promising initiative that not only reduces waste, but also creates a space for community action. The interested parties can stop by regularly, and the commitment of the local clubs is also enriched. For more information on this project, interested citizens can contact Stefan Schreiber, the coordinator for the circular economy. His contact is available by email or phone. The creation of this exchange meeting represents an important step towards a more sustainable future for the district, in which fewer resources are wasted and the community is strengthened.
