Refurbishment of the dilapidated rain overflow basins: 4.2 million euros for Laichingen!

In Laichingen, a huge renovation project is tackled! The dilapidated rain overflow basins (Rüb) urgently need to be brought up to scratch, and that costs a whopping 4.2 million euros! The concrete coverings are not only insufficient, but also visibly damaged. The city plans to write out the renovation work this year with a award in February 2025.

The comprehensive work includes the renovation of the two rain overflow basins, feed lines and channel as well as the separation buildings. The inlet of the sewage treatment plant and the sand and fat trap are also on the list. A geological assessment has also shown that two deep ground cases between the rübs I and II have to be filled. The engineering office BWN civil engineering, specializing in concrete renovation, has already been commissioned to plan. The buildings date from the 1970s and 80s and were not up to date with the latest art, as Christopher Petznick, clerks for deep and road construction.

High costs and strict requirements

The costs of 4.2 million euros cause excitement! Bernhard Schweiz from the Lab said that these editions could ultimately be passed on to the citizens. In addition, the district office Alb-Donau-Kreis granted water law permission to initiate pretreated wastewater until December 31, 2034. Different renovation measures are listed in the requirements, which must be prioritized in different time frames. A total of 3,930,000 euros are planned for the years 2024 to 2026, whereby a price increase of around 5 percent requires an additional 200,000 euros. So the city faces a financial challenge!
