Fusion marathon in handball: Baden-Württemberg gets new association!
Freiburg im Breisgau, Deutschland - On July 1, 2025, the handball landscape in Baden-Württemberg will be revolutionized, because the three handball associations HVW, SHV and BHV are closing together to form the new Baden-Württemberg Handball Association (BWHV). According to Teckbote already decided to take this far-reaching step in March. The merger takes place as part of the existing association Handball Baden-Württemberg (HBW). The seat of the new association will be located in Freiburg im Breisgau and the first official tasks will soon be due. The newly launched Presidium will have a first appearance at the upcoming Germany Cup in Kassel from December 18 to 22.
The merger brings far -reaching structural changes. Instead of the previous organization, there will be eight newly named districts in the future. These are: District I Neckar-Franken, District II Stuttgart-Rems-Murr, District III Neckar-Alb, District IV Oberschwaben-Ostalb, District V Bodensee-Neckar, District VII VII Schwarzwald-Rhein and District VIII Rhein-Neckar. The old Stauferland district disappears and is divided: The district of Göppingen will move part of District III, while the district of Heidenheim and the Altkreis Aalen switch to district IV. The restructuring is not only an organizational adaptation, but also aims to use synergies and strengthen handball in the region.

The general meeting of Handball Baden-Württemberg, which took place in October, launched the decisive name change. This comprehensive redesign is not just a logistical challenge, but a strategic step to intensify the cooperation and the exchange between the clubs. According to YUPPU , such structural changes are often carried out in order to better meet the requirements of sport and members. The first joint appearance of the new association as BWHV will be visible on the national stage of the youth teams, an important step towards a more coherent and more powerful handball community.
