Commit orders: Industry in the crisis, decline by 5.4 percent!

Steyr, Österreich - The economic signs are on storm: SKF in Steyr fights with a decline in orders, which has a direct impact on the premium structure. According to the managing director Robert Zeilllinger, the "Upper Austria Nachrichten" reported that the orders have dropped by impressive 20 percent since the record year 2022. While it was emphasized in conversation with ORF Upper Austria that basic salaries and wages remain stable, the production premiums for workers decrease from eight to 7.2 percent. Despite this difficult location, there is an all -clear with regard to possible job losses - even the 90 leasing workstations should be preserved. In February SKF plans a two -day production break so as not to produce in the warehouse, as other companies may have done.

decline in industrial orders in Germany

In parallel to these developments, statistics from the Federal Statistical Office show a dramatic decline in orders in German industry in November: 5.4 percent fewer orders compared to the previous month. Even the previous month was not better with a decline of 1.5 percent. According to the economist, the negative development was based on strongly fluctuating large orders, such as in the area of vehicle construction, in which orders for aircraft and ships are taken into account in particular. Commerzbank reports that orders in this industry would have grown by 0.2 percent without the fluctuating major orders. An additional incentive to the burden is the falling competitiveness, especially in the international market, where customers are increasingly reserved outside of the EU.

The economic prospects for industry are cloudy: According to the Federal Ministry of Economics, a sustainable revival is currently not in sight, and Commerzbank predicts stagnation in the winter half year. These gloomy economic forecasts directly affect both the Austrian and German industry, and they feel the consequences in their order books.
