A radiant star in the sky of agriculture: Tobias Babel from Wald in the Ostallgäu won the coveted Ceres Award 2024 and was named "Farmer of the Year"! The 38-year-old impressed the jury not only with his outstanding strategy, but also with his innovative way of thinking, which is based on circular economy. "We implement everything on our company from grass to cheese," explains Babel proudly and shows how modern agriculture works.
on its grassland farm Babel breed 80 brown cows and also holds pigs to use the whey from cheese processing sensibly. He sells his products directly in his own farm shop and also offers them in the family's restaurant and hotel. The jury convinced this holistic approach: "It shows how agriculture is embedded in an overall concept and enthusiastic about consumers," says the praising words of the judge.
a price that rewarded courage and wealth of ideas
A total of over 180 farmers from Germany and German -speaking countries have applied for the Ceres Award. The price, which was awarded this year for the eleventh time, not only honors top performance in the field, but also economic successes, which are based on courage, wealth of ideas and a sense of responsibility for humans, animals and nature. Babel's impressive concept was awarded the main prize of 20,000 euros, which he was able to accept in Berlin on October 30th - a moment that was celebrated with great applause!
