Genesis impresses in Munich: New luxury convertible models presented!

Genesis, the luxury brand from Hyundai, has already established itself on the market in Germany, but is facing challenges in terms of success, such as crown reported. In Austria there is an eager anticipation of the introduction of luxury vehicles that will be offered at mid-range prices. The Genesis Cabriolet recently celebrated its European premiere at the Car Design Event (CDE) 2025 in Munich.

The brand has been experimenting with sporty luxury vehicle concepts since 2021, which is reflected in the X Concept series. This series includes several models, including the X Concept, the X Speedium Concept, the X Convertible Concept as well as the X Snow Speedium and X Giro Speedium. In April 2025, the near-production studies of the X Gran Coupe Concept and the X Gran Convertible Concept were presented, both of which are based on the architecture of the flagship model G90.

European premiere and design inspired

How Genesis Newsroom reports, the X Gran Coupe Concept is inspired by Mediterranean olive trees, while the X Gran Convertible Concept reflects the character of southern European wines. The two models demonstrate Genesis' vision of positioning itself as an emotional luxury brand and combine elegance, sportiness and an open driving experience.

Both concepts feature a striking design characterized by signature elements such as the dual-line headlights and the Genesis Crest Grille. The interior of the X Gran Coupe Concept features special olive wood trim and special floor mats. The X Gran Convertible Concept draws inspiration from Cabernet Sauvignon for colors and materials, complemented by crystal accents in collaboration with Swarovski.

Technical details and market development

The new convertible is based on the Genesis G90 and is characterized by a long hood and a second pair of doors. An electric drive was originally planned, but an internal combustion engine, possibly an eight-cylinder, is now expected. The G90 sedan is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 biturbo, with the option of also integrating a 5.0-liter Tau series unit. Information about the market launch in Austria is still unclear; A launch was originally planned for 2024, but was postponed.

Europe remains the largest and fastest growing market for luxury cars, boosted by increasing awareness of luxury and electric mobility. Genesis itself also plans to launch three luxury electric vehicles in Europe, with Germany and the United Kingdom playing a central role in the market.
