Insolvency drama in Reutlingen: Mechanical engineer Manz before the end!
The Maschinenbauer Manz AG, with its headquarters in Reutlingen, filed for bankruptcy at the end of 2024. The decision, which became officially at the Stuttgart District Court, affects around 1,200 people worldwide, of which around 490 are employed at the headquarters. The lawyer Martin Mucha was appointed as a provisional insolvency administrator by the Grubb Brugger law firm. Mucha informed the workforce about the bankruptcy application and assured that business operations would continue to be maintained.
As early as August 2024, Manz had registered short-time work at two locations in Baden-Württemberg, which was due to greatly decreased order numbers. The company mainly produces applications for the automotive industry, electromobility and medical technology. Manz's financial problems are due to early capacity structure in electromobility, which could not be compensated for by sales. In 2023, Manz AG achieved sales of 249 million euros and employed around 1,500 people worldwide.
renovation and investor search
The search for a strategic investor from the industry has already been initiated. The insolvency administrator expressed the confidence of finding a buyer by spring 2025. Manz could also be taken from the stock exchange; The company went to the stock exchange in 2006. At the same time, there were already other mechanical engineers in the industry, such as Illig from Heilbronn, who registered bankruptcy, but dared to start again by investors.
Investments in battery cell production were burdened by the large manufacturers of shifted or painted investments. The expectations of market potential in Europe have not met, which led to the current financial situation. In the current financial year, sales between 170 and 180 million euros will be forecast.
