Rhein-Erft-Kreis: District Administrator Rock outlines forward-looking visions!
Frank Rock, the district administrator of the Rhein-Erft district, recently gave an exciting view of the future of the region at an event in the historic Abbey Brauweiler. Supported by impressive Deepfake technology, Rock was a futuristic old man from 2074 and explained that the area changed from a coal region to an innovation center. In particular, he emphasized the challenges and opportunities of structural change, which is to be understood as a unique opportunity: "The Rhein-Erft district is at a turning point. We do not have to fear the structural change, but actively shape it," says Rock. This was also reflected in the moderation of Katrin Liebert and the committed contributions from the students who actively participated in the discussion.
Focust issues for the future
A central aspect of the event was the integration of education and digital competence, with future researchers Kai Gondlach impressively stated that artificial intelligence (AI) will be a crucial tool to counteract the shortage of skilled workers and to revolutionize added value in industry. In view of the global changes, the youth urgently demands extensive school offers on the topics of digitization and AI. According to a current study, 77 percent of young people trust democracy, but many feel overwhelmed by the complexity of the digital world. However, this challenge also offers opportunities that can be realized by targeted promotion of contemporary education systems, as was shown in an interview with rock.
Rock also explained that the Rhein-Erft district plays an important role as a important location for chemistry and energy. The exit from lignite power production presents the region with immense challenges, but it sees great opportunities through investments in sustainable industries such as digitization and hydrogen technology. In order for the transformation to be designed successfully, advanced infrastructure measures and the active participation of the population are essential. Particularly noteworthy is the decision by Microsoft to invest 3.2 billion euros in two large data centers in the Rhein-Erft district. Rock described this as a "gamuchanger" for the region, since this measure will create numerous new jobs and could attract companies that are dependent on the high -quality data infrastructure.
With the planned “House of Education”, not only a modern educational institution is to be created, but also the basis for a new generation of specialists. The structural change in the Rhein-Erft district is therefore not only a challenge, but also an opportunity to redesign the economic structure in order to meet the future requirements of the working world, as Rock analyzed. These approaches to the positive transformation and the integration of the citizens are crucial for the success of these future -oriented plans.
