ÖVP realignment: Christian Stocker will be the new chancellor!
Politische Akademie, Österreich - The ÖVP today takes the last steps to form a new “sugar coalition”. At a press conference led by the new party leader Christian Stocker, decisive personal details were announced that set the course for the future government. At the center of this redesign is the confirmation of Stocker as the new Chancellor. With him, Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer is appointed Minister of Economy, while Claudia Plakolm will take over the department for family, youth, EU and integration. Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner and Interior Minister Gerhard Karner remain in her positions. Minister of Agriculture Norbert Tettschnig will also keep his office. The personnel decisions were followed by a meeting of the federal party executive, which took place this morning to clarify the last details, such as Die Krone reported.
The outgoing Chancellor Karl Nehammer recently announced his resignation and thus handed over the management of the People's Party to Christian Stocker, who previously worked as Secretary General. In his first statement as party chairman, Stocker expressed the will of the ÖVP to seek discussions about coalition negotiations with the FPÖ, which is remarkable in view of his previous critical statements about the freedom. A significant U -turn after Stocker had previously heavily attacked the FPÖ and its chairman Herbert Kickl in a press statement. Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen also informed Nehammer about the developments within the party. Van der Bellen plans to invite Kickl for a conversation, which indicates the tense situation between the potential partners, as notes.
