Fight against inequality: Women in Africa take responsibility

An alarming inequality between the sexes is not only shown in the professional world, but also in global population distribution: there are currently around 70 million more men than women worldwide. According to the report of the United Nations department for economic and social affairs (DESA), there are about 101.81 men in the world on 100 women. This unequal distribution has numerous causes and is very pronounced in certain countries, such as in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, where men dominate the 298.64 and 257.95 per 100 women, while in countries like Martinique and Hong Kong more women live like Kleine Zeitung are only 16 percent of the workers in the traditionally male-dominated energy sector women. This leads to massive underrepresentation and proves the structural obstacles that women are confronted with worldwide. In addition, around 785 million women are excluded from digital jobs and fight, especially in Subsahara Africa, with serious challenges, while they have to bear most of the economic responsibility.

Dolika Banda from Care USA emphasizes that women often have to carry the main burden of care work in their households, while men often fall into passive roles. These dynamic structures can be found in many African countries, where women provide up to 66 percent of agricultural workers. The Care report shows that this inequality not only affects women's lives, but also economic growth: the global economy escapes around ten trillion dollars annually through a lack of investments in the education and support of women. The urgent need to improve social and professional conditions for women worldwide is clear, since without such changes women run the risk of being excluded from the opportunities in the rapidly changing world of work.
