Greifswald starts international teacher training project with 625,000 euros in funding!

The University of Greifswald has pulled off an impressive coup! With follow-up funding until 2029 as part of the DAAD Lehramt.International program, the “Teaching Internationally” project will become a pioneer in the internationalization of teacher training courses in Germany. From January 1, 2025, around 625,000 euros will be used to support international mobility for prospective teachers. Greifswald is one of the 36 selected projects supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

The goal is clear: the teacher training students should gain international experience! In addition to study stays at renowned partner universities, a network of schools abroad is being set up where internships can be completed. But that's not all! Digital courses in several languages and short-term stays at partner institutions are also on the program. The University of Greifswald is opening the doors to a world full of opportunities for its students.

Strong international network

The partner universities are a veritable who’s who of the European and American educational landscape: from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in Greece to the University of Michigan-Flint in the USA. And interest continues to grow – other universities have already signaled their commitment! Dorthe G.A. Hartmann, Vice Rector for Teaching, emphasizes: "Internationalization is an essential part of our teacher training studies. In a multicultural society, it is important that our students gain international experience."

The initiative aims to significantly increase students' physical, blended and virtual mobility. Internationalization@home is also strengthened through the exchange with international students and teachers. The University of Greifswald is positioning itself as a key player in European higher education and setting new standards for teacher training!
