Financial crisis in Rhineland-Palatinate: Landtag decides a new double household!

In the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament, crucial consultations about the double budget for the years 2025 and 2026 are pending. Since December 18, 2024, a household has been debated, which is planning to spend around 50.7 billion euros in spending and around 49.3 billion euros. In order to compensate for the deficit, around 1.2 billion euros are to be removed from the reserves in 2025. Finance Minister Doris Ahnen (SPD) announced that part of the expenditure will flow particularly in the field of education. In the future, 1,173 new jobs will be planned in schools in order to promote inclusion and all -day offers. In addition, the municipalities receive more financial support, with over four billion euros being assured through the municipal financial equalization.

budget plans in North Rhine-Westphalia

The North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament plans to adopt a record budget for 2025 today. The government of CDU and the Greens will strive for a total of 105.5 billion euros, which means almost three billion more than in the previous year. The educational expenses should increase to a historical maximum of around 42 billion euros to set up 50,000 new all -day places in primary schools. In North Rhine-Westphalia, too, part of the planned cuts in the social area is withdrawn, which has been particularly irritated to the topic by the massive protest movement of recent times. If everything goes according to plan, the state government can also start the old debt regulation from 2025 and apply 250 million euros for it.

While the Rhineland-Palatinate CDU parliamentary group demands more financial resources and the state government has to warn of a wave of lawsuits, the SPD pursues similar goals in North Rhine-Westphalia and demands a comprehensive investment package. Credit financing of five billion euros is required to renovate schools in particular and to support municipalities in climate -neutral transformation. These two state parliament clearly show the focus on education and municipal support in times when the financial burdens for the different regions increase.

The ongoing budget consultations are of great importance and could have far -reaching consequences for the future financial stability of the countries.
