VW plant Zwickau: The creeping farewell to the automobile is drawn!

The Volkswagen plant in Zwickau faces significant changes that will affect the model range and future production. As HNA has to give up four models. The last remaining model will be the Elektro-Audi Q4 e-tron. There are also considerations to move the production of the Q4 e-tron from the first half of the 2030s to the VW plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee. So far, the entire production for the US market from Zwickau.

A spokeswoman for Audi confirmed that the Zwickau plant remains the production site for the Audi Q4 E-Ttron and its sportsback variant. VW ID.4 is already being produced in Chattanooga and the Q4 e-tron would be the first Audi vehicle to be manufactured directly in the USA. From 2027 there will be no production of VW models in Zwickau. The models Id.3, Id.4, Id.5 and Cupra Born move to Wolfsburg and Emden. Despite these changes, the employment of employees remains secured by 2030. The Zwickau plant currently has around 9,500 employees.

HR reduction and tariff developments

like MDR , further measures were decided in the tariff compromise between Volkswagen and the works council. The production of the VW models mentioned is shifted to Wolfsburg and Emden. In the future, only the Audi Q4 e-tron and the Q4 E-Tron Sportback will be manufactured in Zwickau.

Volkswagen Sachsen also plans to reduce personnel to around 8,500 jobs to implement savings goals. The contracts of 1,000 employees expire, and around 150 of these contracts have not been extended every month since January. According to the company, however, no further job deletions are planned.
