With heart and hand: people with disabilities bring joy into the country!

The Caritas in Austria celebrates an impressive anniversary: The day care center Rannersdorf opened its goals 20 years ago and has since offered 67 people with intellectual and multiple disabilities. Under the technical support of 20 employees, various supervising and creative-therapeutic offers are realized here. These range from painting groups to ceramics to animal-assisted therapies with tasty companions such as horses and sheep, as well as presented in a report by Caritas tirol

important demands and birthday party

At the celebration, Klaus Schwertner, Caritas director of the Archdiocese of Vienna, emphasized the still existing gap in the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Disabilities and called for "wages instead of pocket money" for the clients. Every year, around 28,000 people with disabilities are active in similar plants in the Austrian federal states. The Rannersdorf day care center not only offers employment, but also an integration within the community, for example through garbage collection campaigns and visits in nursing homes. These integrative approaches are paired with a colorful leisure program that ranges from dance projects to visits to the popular Novarock Festival.

At the same time, the Caritas Center Zillertal ensures variety in the everyday life of people with disabilities by regularly giving them excursions to the nearby “Düraufhof” farm. There, clients take on responsible tasks such as providing animals, which gives both the animals and people a lot of fun and promotes their own business. As My district reports , the connection to the community is also strengthened by workshops and joint activities in the day care centers, which both social integration as well as further education comprises.
