Strong agriculture: new laws for fair prices and better conditions!
The agricultural commissioner Christophe Hansen presented pioneering changes for agriculture as part of a decisive meeting of the European Parliament. These two crucial legislative initiatives aim to strengthen the position of farmers in the value chain and combat unfair trading practices. The proposals should be specified by summer and offer farmers the right to conclude written contracts with buyers in order to ensure price safety. "Our rural family businesses need clear and fair framework conditions," emphasized Bernhuber, while he highlighted the need to implement the initiatives quickly, as APA OTS reported. But not only new rules are on the agenda. Hansen also made it clear that the EU agriculture was faced with challenges that range from geopolitical shocks, and that a reform of the common agricultural policy (GAP) is urgently needed. At the Green Week, he said that the European Commission wanted to present a plan to simplify bureaucracy in order to give farmers more planning and investment security. He referred to the alarming average age of the farmers of 57 years and the need to make the farmer's profession more attractive to secure the offspring.
