Women conquer tax advice: historical change at work!

A remarkable milestone for tax advice: In Austria, more women than men are now active in this industry! According to the Association of Austrian tax consultants and auditors (VWT), 3,228 women and 3,219 men work in tax advice. Philipp Rath, President of the VWT, proudly announces: "This is the first time to provide women in tax advice." This development shows how attractive the profession has become in particular through flexible working time models for women. "The industry has changed a lot in the past decades," continued Rath, "and offers many opportunities to combine careers with individual life plans." The successes are unmistakable, but there is still a lot to do in auditing.

challenges in auditing

Although the proportion of women in tax advice has increased pleasantly, it looks very different in auditing. Here the proportion of women is only 31 percent, which means that 2,052 auditors are only 641 women inside. Rath sees various reasons for this: "The age structure in auditing is traditionally higher, and until recently the profession was shaped by high travel requirements." However, the pandemic has meant that many exams are now possible digitally or through day trips, which makes the profession more attractive for women who want to combine family and work better.

Another ray of hope on the horizon: The management positions in the industry also show positive developments. While the proportion of men is historically high in the higher positions, the younger generation clearly catches the eye with a ratio of 50:50. Rath predicts that in a few years we could see a ratio of 60:40 in favor of women, since well -trained and motivated female specialists move up in leadership roles. Large consulting companies are increasingly investing in diversity programs, which is a profit for everyone involved, because many recognize the high value of diversity.

For a in -depth insight into the female shares in various professional groups in Germany, the data from Statista offer exciting insights. These show that in various professions the proportion of women is still distributed differently. For example, the trend in tax advice could serve as a positive example for other industries in which equality must first be sought, which underlines the relevance of this change.
