New Körber location in Bergedorf: Mayor Tschentscher enthusiastic!
On May 22, 2025, Hamburg's First Mayor Dr. Peter Tschentscher inspects the construction site of the new Körber location in the Bergedorf Innovation Park. During his visit, Tschentscher, together with the district office manager Cornelia Schmidt-Hoffmann and around 70 other guests, found out about the future headquarters of the Körber Technologies business unit. Construction work on the “Körber new building in Hamburg” recently began, and completion of the ambitious project is scheduled for the end of 2026.
Körber's CEO, Stephan Seifert, described the investment of over 200 million euros as the largest single investment in the company's history. The new building will combine existing Körber Technologies GmbH locations in Hamburg-Bergedorf and Schwarzenbek and covers almost 50,000 square meters.
Focus on modern working environments
Körber plans to use the new premises not only for administration, development, production and logistics, but also to create modern working environments with digital processes and sustainable construction methods. Arungalai Anbarasu, board member at Körber, emphasized the innovative strength and sustainable production processes that are to be integrated into the new project. Tschentscher described the new building as one of the most modern industrial properties in Germany.
Discussions about the future use of the current location on Kurt A. Körber Chaussee are already underway. The move to the Innovation Park is scheduled for 2027.
The Bergedorf Innovation Park
The Bergedorf Innovation Park is one of four innovation parks in Hamburg where, in addition to Körber, other companies also develop new technologies. The park will focus on the following thematic areas: wind energy, 3D laser technology, energy storage as well as optical technologies and grid integration. The aim of the concept is to develop an innovative, mixed neighborhood that integrates social and cultural facilities as well as gastronomy, sports and leisure activities.
Parks are planned to promote local recreation. These are located between the Curslacker Neuen Deich in the west and the A 25 federal motorway in the south, with the northern border being formed by the Bergedorf-Geesthacht railway line. In addition, urban development barriers such as main roads and railway lines should be removed in order to improve connectivity with neighboring districts.
HIE Hamburg Invest Developmentgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG acts as the property owner and project developer, while renowned planning offices such as Hosoya Schaefer Architects from Zurich and EGL Development and Design from Landschaft GmbH from Hamburg are entrusted with the planning. The functional plan is based on the Urban Bergedorf-Southeast master plan and was presented to the political committees in January 2023.
A future-oriented usage concept, known as District+, envisages a mixed offer that includes office, research, commercial and some social facilities, daycare centers and cultural offerings. This minimizes motorized individual traffic and creates attractive open spaces.
The area will be developed via the marshland road in the south. Several multifunctional mobility centers for stationary traffic are also planned. Citizens will also be able to participate in walking and cycling via the so-called Lifeline, which runs independently of motorized traffic. Flexibility in building typologies is provided, from office buildings to high-rise buildings with heights of 10 to 14 floors.
Overall, the Bergedorf Innovation Park envisages the creation of open spaces in four typologies: intensively used parks, natural parks, urban open spaces and green building facades and roofs. In addition, allotment gardens in the area are to be redeveloped, some of them on replacement areas south of Rothenhauschaussee. The district assembly has already approved the Bergedorf 99 development plan process for the western area of the innovation park, and construction preparations are planned for 2024.
