MINT region Favorites: FH Campus Vienna promotes women in technology and natural sciences!

As part of their initiatives to promote MINT (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology), Austria awarded 14 other regions with the MINT regions of quality label at the end of April 2025. The FH Campus Vienna, which is located in the 10th district of Vienna, is now part of the MINT region Favorites. This contributes to strengthening the MINT formation and supporting women and girls in these areas, such as ots.at reports.

Favorites, with around 220,000 inhabitants and over 60 school locations, including 14 facilities with STEM seal of seals, has a dynamic population development and great cultural diversity. Around 45% of residents are born abroad, while about 32% are considered to be low. Evelyn Süss-Stepancik, Vice Rector of the FH Campus Vienna, emphasizes the importance of innovative educational approaches that meet these challenges.

commitment and projects

The FH Campus Vienna is actively involved in the MINT region through its departments for applied life sciences, construction and design as well as technology. Projects that are developed in this context include biotechnological innovations, sustainable construction as well as digitization and IT security. Close cooperation with industry and schools enables practical education in MINT subjects.

To make access to technical fields of study specifically, the FH Campus Wien is organizing various initiatives such as the long night of research and MINT careering. The “Studying Try” program enables interested parties to have a realistic insight into everyday studies. The overarching goal is to create a sustainable and inclusive educational area, promotes lifelong learning and strengthens the cooperation between educational institutions, companies and associations.

support for girls in mint

The promotion of girls in MINT professions is also a central concern of the Federal Chancellor's Office as part of the Austrian youth strategy. This is done by various programs that support young women and are supposed to inspire for MINT professions. Women are still underrepresented in these areas in Austria, with MINT subjects offer attractive earning opportunities and future potential, such as bundeskanzleramt.gv.at stated.

The measures include the annual girls' day, which took place for the first time in 2006 and offers students the opportunity to get to know non-traditional professions. As part of the last girl's day in the Federal Chancellery, the focus was on algorithms, robotics and coding. Other initiatives such as the fund "Lea-Let’s Empower Austria" are committed to strengthening women and girls in the MINT area. Another highlight is the MINT Girls Challenge, which goes into the next round in 2023 and motivates to develop creative ideas in MINT subjects.

Overall, it can be seen that the MINT region of favorites is not only an educational future project, but also a step towards equality of gender in the natural sciences and technical professions. The bundled forces of the FH Campus Vienna, other educational institutions and industry are crucial to achieve these goals and illustrate the importance of MINT formation in today's society.
