Harry Potter on a long journey: New studio in Shanghai from 2027!
An exciting project is taking shape: Warner Bros has teamed up with China's Jinjiang International Group to develop a breathtaking "Harry Potter Studio Tour" in Shanghai. This was recently announced by Jinjiang via social media. A unique attraction is planned that will allow visitors to take a look behind the scenes of the popular Harry Potter films. Various iconic scenes from the films are recreated and made tangible for visitors. The Studio Tour will cover more than 53,000 square meters of space and will be located at Jinjiang Amusement Park in Minhang District.
This exciting initiative marks the first of its kind in China and will be the third to open globally after the London and Tokyo tours. The planned park is part of a major renovation of the existing theme park and is expected to open in 2027, pending approval from regulators, such as OE24 reported. The Harry Potter films enjoy immense popularity in China, although foreign productions account for only a small share of cinema sales due to strict quotas and a bias towards local content.
Exciting developments in the theme park landscape
The initiative by Warner Bros and Jinjiang is part of a larger trend as international theme park operators increasingly penetrate the huge Chinese market. The opening of the Legoland Shanghai Resort is just around the corner, while the Disney Resort in Shanghai is also making significant progress in expanding its offering. The construction of the third themed hotel is progressing rapidly, showing that the theme park industry in China is flourishing and developing dynamically Global Times reported.
