Vegetation work by Deutsche Bahn: Trees are falling in the Schnaittachtal!

Deutsche Bahn started vegetation work in Middle Franconia on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. The measures include both tree felling and pruning, particularly along the Schnaittachtalbahn. This work is scheduled to be carried out by the end of February 2025 and also includes mowing and mulching work as well as hedge cutting.

The main goal of the vegetation work is to ensure traffic safety on and next to the tracks and to keep emergency routes clear. In addition, the maintenance work is intended to promote the healthy development of the vegetation. The work is related to the “Vegetation Action Plan” from 2018, which aims to make the rail areas more storm-proof and avoid long downtimes.

Disturbances and noise development

Residents have to be prepared for the disruption caused by work noise, while Deutsche Bahn asks for your understanding of the noise development.

The vegetation care measures are taking place against the background of increasing extreme weather conditions, which are having an impact on the rail infrastructure. Loud georesources.net Deutsche Bahn has invested around 100 million euros annually in vegetation care since 2007. In order to further increase the safety of the railway, an additional 125 million euros were made available for a thinning initiative. This initiative includes, among other things, the hiring of up to 150 new employees and focuses on the processing of unstable tree species.

Deutsche Bahn also plans to expand intensive inspections and thinning beyond traditional pruning measures, a step that was initiated as part of the “Vegetation Action Plan”. These ongoing measures should, in particular, continue to take critical growth forms into account.
