S-Bahn Thiebsteich: Opening is shifting to January 2025!
The reopening of the Diebsteich S-Bahn station in Hamburg is planned for the end of January 2025. However, passengers of the S3 have to prepare for more than three weeks. There will be no train traffic between Altona and Stellingen as well as between Holstenstraße and Stellingen in the period from January 7th to 30th, 2025. This measure is necessary because the train station already had two opening dates: the opening was originally planned for October 2023 and then for August 2024. The delay in August 2024 was due to missing experts for the technical acceptance.
In order to minimize the restrictions for passengers, a replacement of rails is set up that only runs between Stellingen and Holstenstrasse. Passengers of the S3 from Altona to Pinneberg have to switch to the S2 in Altona and then switch to the replacement bus in Holstenstrasse. The S2 runs every ten minutes, and in the main traffic times there are also four replacement buses per direction every ten minutes. The travel time can extend by up to 20 minutes. In addition, the S5 will only drive between Sternschanze and Stade for three weeks.
delay through challenging acceptance processes
The commissioning of the Hamburg S-Bahn station Thiebsteich is delayed in early 2025, like the Deutsche Bahn . The opening for August 2024 was originally planned. All necessary work for the new building should be completed by the end of August, but the decrease in lead and security technology takes about three weeks. The delay is due to the fact that no acceptance auditor is available after the work has been completed. Such examiners are experts recognized by the Federal Railway Authority and have to complete extensive training.
The increased need for acceptance examiners due to increased construction activities of Deutsche Bahn leads to longer waiting times. The Deutsche Bahn was currently unable to bind a acceptance for the desired period. The next possible blocking break of the S-Bahn in January 2025 has already been planned with an available acceptance tester. After the successful acceptance, the S-Bahn station can go into operation. Until commissioning, replacement traffic with bus line 180 is maintained. The work for the new long-distance and regional train station is not affected by the delays, and Deutsche Bahn apologizes to the affected passengers of the Hamburg S-Bahn for the inconvenience
