Number of refugees from Ukraine is increasing: winter at the door!
Wien, Österreich - The situation for refugee Ukrainians in Austria is heading before the coming winter. In an interview with Krone.at, refugee coordinator Andreas Achrainer emphasizes that around 1,500 to 2,000 new refugees arrive every month. Around 76,000 Ukrainians currently live in the country, 37,000 of whom are dependent on basic care. This represents a significant acceptance compared to the approximately 130,000 in 2022, since many moved to other European countries or have returned to Ukraine.
Integration into the labor market remains a central challenge. Achrainer explains that many who live in basic care for fear of losing their accommodation hesitate to take on a job. This situation is particularly questionable in view of the shortage of skilled workers in Austria, especially in the health and care sector, where qualified workers are urgently needed. According to Achrainer, Vienna is particularly affected because the city has fulfilled over 140% of its odds, while Carinthia is considered backward and does not offer enough opportunities for integration. This discrepancy raises questions about how to better use the existing resources and further improve support for refugees, as it is reported.
challenges of support
The need to bundle help at all levels - federal government, countries, civil society - is becoming increasingly urgent. The President of Ukraine Hilfe, Cornelius Granig, demands more job opportunities for the often well -trained refugees. The focus is not only on integration into the labor market, but also on the support of the vulnerable groups among the refugees, including 7,000 senior citizens as well as people with disabilities and war injuries. The neighboring neighbor in need emphasizes that donations have already collected 100 million euros to support 2.5 million people, which is considered a positive sign of solidarity. Nevertheless, the support remains essential, since Ukraine has been before the hardest winter since the beginning of the war.
