Vienna in front of a labor market debacle: unemployment increases dramatically!
The labor market in Austria faces a dark future: The Vienna Research Institute Synthesis warns in a current forecast that unemployment will increase unchecked next year. During an online expert discussion of the AMS, labor market researcher Wolfgang Alteneder said that a further tightening of the situation was to be expected by the end of 2025. He expects between 25,000 and 30,000 additional unemployed per month compared to the current figures. A decline in unemployment can be expected at the earliest for the beginning of 2026, as the Krone reported.
shocking forecasts
The numbers presented Alteneder draw a disturbing picture for the coming months. In the first half of 2025, the increase in unemployment will continue “largely unchecked”, which is very concerned about both the politically responsible and the general population. The Econstor platform describes the increasing challenges in their analyzes that are associated with this development. Stabilization is only in sight in the second half of the year, but the uncertainty remains great.
Experts warn that the strict economic framework and the associated uncertainties will strongly influence the employment situation. Increasing unemployment could have significant long -term effects on social cohesion and the economic recovery of the country, even if this is not examined in more detail.
