Tax fraudsters on construction site: escape plan fails!
In a surprising check, the financial police had now grabbed a fleeting tax evader on a construction site in Styria. The 56-year-old entrepreneur, who has no longer had a valid report since 2020, had tried to avoid his tax obligations by a fictitious change of residence abroad, reported APAOTS . The man was personally present at the construction site at the time of the control and had open fines of 20,000 euros because of previous convictions that he had not paid for. Thanks to the cooperation of the financial police, the entrepreneur's plan was thwarted, and it was finally brought to the Graz prison.
The financial police have carried out comprehensive controls as part of these actions to combat tax fraud in the past few months. In the third quarter of 2024, more than 13,500 employees were checked in almost 6,000 companies, which led to almost 2,000 criminal applications of over 4.3 million euros, as the Ministry of Finance confirmed in a current sending. The most common violations concerned the Foreignership Act and the General Social Insurance Act. The aim of the financial police is to protect the financial interests of the state and to punish illegal behavior, said Finance Minister Gunter Mayr. A review of the security service during a concert event in Vienna led to several tax offenses, for example, as described in another report by meinbezirk.atAnother focus of the financial police is on combating illegal gambling and identifying false companies. The efficient controls show success: in the third quarter of 2024 numerous illegal gaming equipment was confiscated, and even false companies could be uncovered. The financial police will continue to be active in the future to ensure lawful conditions in the labor market and to protect the honest economy.
